This is a hand-built model (builder and date unknown) of LBSC's 2-1/2"-gauge "Purley Grange," A GWR 4-6-0 that was run as a construction series in Model Engineer starting n April of 1937.
The coal-fired engine has a locomotive-type boiler, safety valve, throttle, blower, pressure gauge, water glass, axle pump, hand pump in tender, and bypass valve. The engine has full Stephenson's valve gear, controlled by a screw reverser in the cab. The engine is built to a reasonable standard and appears to be complete and in generally good condition. It was obviously a "runner" and shows signs of use. I have not steamed the engine but have tried it on air. There is an air leak, perhaps associated with the axle pump or the lubricator. This may or may not be a simple problem to rectify. Priced to sell. |
