This model was privately built in the late '90s by Mike Bigger. It is loosely based on a 15"-gauge Heywood estate-railway locomotive. Since the model is built to run on gauge-1 track, this works out to approximately 1:8 scale, which means it has a substantial presence on a gauge-1 track.
The model is an alcohol-fired pot boiler with double-acting outside cylinders, a displacement lubricator, a pressure gauge, a safety valve, slip-eccentric reversing gear, and a four-wick burner. A small diversion valve between the cylinders redirects the exhaust downward during start-up, if desired. The model is in "used" condition, with minor wear-and-tear as can seen in the photographs below. It comes with a whimsical driver (attached with magnets) and several spare Heywood-style couplers, should the new owner wish to build matching rolling stock. This locomotive was one of only two built. Its sister locomotive was featured as the "Locomotive of the Month" here. Both locomotives are featured double heading in one of the photos below. " Please note: This locomotive is being offered for sale by Mike Horner. If you are interested in this engine, or have any questions about it, please contact him directly at boulderhorner@gmail.com |
